I’m Keith Strohmaier. I’ve been on Facebook posting positivity
as Compassionate Manifestation since September 2020.
These practices evolved from how I started using a powerful technique for releasing emotional blocks called EFT/Tapping (or just Tapping) that's been used since the 1970s.
It turns out that tapping on acupoints (electrically sensitive points on your body that are used in acupuncture and acupressure) calms the part of the brain that causes the fight, flight, or freeze response.
And that can relieve lots of problems.
From anxiety and depression, to cravings and weight loss, to athletic performance, to PTSD, to physical pain and other issues.
It’s a very simple and flexible technique.
You just focus on whatever issue you have while tapping on the acupoints.
(Research has shown that tapping on acupoints makes a difference.)
There’s lots of ways to focus on an issue, but the tapping part is just tapping.
Typically, you assess how bad your issue is, then tap, then assess again to see how it worked.
The more you can focus on the feelings around your issue, the more likely you are to get relief.
And it can happen pretty quickly.
But not always.
Some issues are complicated.
They might have different parts to them, like if you had a difficult interaction with someone that upset you.
You might need to tap on different things they said to you.
You might also need to tap on different emotions that come up for you, like fear, anger, or sadness.
And if something is either really complicated or you can’t bring up all the emotions around an issue, you might struggle to get immediate relief.
That's what happened to me when I wanted to do something about the pain in my legs.
You see, I was in a serious accident in December of 2021.
I was hit by a car while riding my moped.
Both my legs were badly broken. (I now have metal in both legs.)
I had to spend a couple months in a wheelchair and learn how to use my legs again.
Which involved lots of pain.
Another big complication was the tumor on my left kidney they found when I got hit.
That’s right, cancer. (Stage 2, not aggressive, had chemo, then surgery in February 2023)
(Yes, finding the cancer early was a blessing, but quite a lot to deal with at once!)
I was doing pretty well with my rehab until I started chemo.
Turns out one of my side effects was pain.
(Actually, it was pain caused by my brain reacting to all the accumulated stress and trauma of my accident and cancer treatment. My brain incorrectly saw regular things as dangerous. Creating inappropriate pain was my brain’s attempt to keep me safe. *Thanks to the Curable app for helping me understand this!)
I had made progress getting over that in the 15 months since chemo, but it was still with me.
That meant that when I used my legs more, I’d have pain that I didn’t think I should be having.
So, my rehab progress really slowed down.
Until I tried an experiment.
I had gotten back into tapping last year when I got certified to teach The Success Principles (from the popular 2005 book by Jack Canfield and Janet Switzer) in December 2023.
They recommended that I learn how to teach a technique like Tapping to release emotional blocks to success.
Tapping helped me release my insecurities around getting my certification essays done, which were pretty personal.
(It wasn’t that I wasn’t accomplished. I have a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and spent around 10 years working in management on the business side of education. Two very different chapters of my life.)
So, my experiment was to see if I could use tapping to change the belief I held (based on my experience) that the more I used my legs, the more they would hurt.
And I decided to not do it the usual way, where you assess, tap, then assess.
Sure, I was afraid to do more because of my experience.
But I didn’t have a huge emotional reaction to tap on.
I figured there were probably a lot of emotions below the surface though.
So, I decided to try a different approach.
I told myself I was just going to tap to try to change my belief every day and see what happened.
And after a few days, I started getting results.
It’s been a couple of months, and I’ve made tremendous progress on my rehab.
I’m taking walks around my neighborhood.
I’m riding a stationary bike at the same level I was before my accident.
I’m in the weight room doing leg presses.
I’m actually able to jog on a treadmill.
And I’m not worried about doing any of these things.
I wasn’t doing any of those things before I started my experiment.
So, I’m very happy.

After my success with this approach, I decided to see what else I
could do with it.
I thought about what things I need help with to create the life I wanted.
Having decided I wanted to teach Compassionate Self-Improvement, I needed to do a lot of things I hadn't done before.
Which was stressful.
And meant I needed to be open to new ideas to overcome all the internal and external challenges to the life I wanted.
Once I opened up my thinking, I knew I was going to have to do lots of new things, which can be very uncomfortable.
Especially when you have to figure things out as you go.
And with all this newness, I had plenty of doubt about my abilities and how (and when) things were going to work out.
I also knew that the easiest way for me to grow into the person I needed to be to create the life I wanted was to accept myself as I was now.
The good (strengths, experience), the bad (faults, imperfections) and everything else.
I decided to create tapping scripts for practices to address those things.
Some tapping scripts can be really long, but I wanted these to be easy to do, so I made sure they were short.
Two minutes was long enough to do some good work, but short enough to fit into my busy schedule.
And because they're designed to be practices, progress would happen, but it would be more gradual.
That's because it's working on all the complicated emotions below the surface.
Now I have a set of practices that serve me well!
And that’s the story behind what I teach in this workshop.
So, again these practices:
- Take less than 2 minutes to do, so it’s easy to fit into your life
- Use Tapping to release emotional blocks so you can figure out better ways to think about life
- Are designed to not be emotionally intense, so it won’t feel like something you want to avoid
